Arrow, Sparrow head cast at Solid Gold
Solid Gold, an event planned for February 27, "brings to the fore soca music in its rawest form and it will take you back to a time, when music was simple, the song told a story and the lyrics were understandable and witty," its hosts Spektakula Promotions said in a press release.
The planned venue is the Jean Pierre Sports Complex. This is the second time the event has been planned for a Carnival Monday.
"Last year, the event proved a success, as it captured a large audience and Spektakula is expecting an even bigger turn-out this year.
"Patrons were left chipping out of the Complex to the songs of beautiful old-school music on pan, and that was one of the many highlights," the press release said.
The line up of Solid Gold performers includes the Montserratan soca legend Arrow. Arrow, born Alphonsus Cassell, rose to fame internationally when he released the ever-popular single Hot, Hot, Hot.
"Though Arrow had been singing long before that song made him a star, it was those three little words that sent his career into overdrive. Hot, Hot, Hot has sold over four million plus copies, been recorded in over 12 different languages, charted in multiple countries and is still an international soca anthem. To this date, over 22 different version of Hot, Hot, Hot exist."
Arrow "was the first soca artist to ever
perform at the Reggae Sunsplash in both England and Jamaica. He was also able
the first to have his music available on CD; to place hits on the British Music
Charts and to receive the prestigious MBE from Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham
Also on the bill is eight-time Calypso Monarch the Mighty Sparrow, "the art form's most prominent ambassador and one deserving of the title Calypso King of The World."
They will be joined by Baron, Explainer, Johnny King, Stalin, Shadow and Scrunter.
